The main problem I have been having with work is formulating a way in which I can manipulate images in direct corespondence to the sound or music. Creating a process rather than simply relying on my own interpretations. For example the work of the Whitney brothers, which I previously referenced, their animations are a direct result of working with music and converting this through machinery into a physical output. This obviously takes a great deal of musical and scientific aptitude, and is something that is not easily replicable especially within the time frame in which we are working. Recently however inspiration struck when I came across this image,

who knew browsing facebook avoiding work could bring such a fruitful brainwave.

I mused upon how the drawing implement used to follow the path created by each point within the disk could be linked to musical notes. Such as higher notes in the musical scale correlating with holes that are closer to the perimeter of the circle. I will be able to represent the duration of each note as well by linking this with the number of rotations for each note as well as using specific colours based on the reading I have done.

I just need to now get hold of a Spirograph set, which has been more difficult than you would imagine without having to buy one, if this looks good though hopefully I will be able to make my own version anyway.
