Today was the my drawing session with Ian, obviously these are practical lessons so obviously it isn't appropriate to sit and do sketchbook work. So today I planned to create the 16mm film finally I had left it because I had a query about the optical sound that runs down the one edge and how you were actually meant to mark this. This was fine though because I can only get hold of a projector to play what I have made on Thursday but should be able to use a digital video camera to record and post it.

I'm not really sure how it will turn out it took me pretty much all day to finish the film it wont be very long however because four frames (frame being the space between each sprocket) convert to a only second of film. Hopefully though its possible to loop this by bonding the film together. To create the images I used permanent markers, ink, biro, and tip-ex using a combination of free hand and some stencils to create shapes and patterns that were more structured. One thing that might be a problem is the paint and design cracking and falling away when it is actually in the projector because of the amount it is twisted. Despite the fact this was just a sample I attempted to relate it to the work that I have been doing, the lines and shapes correspond to the ink drawings from sound.

Here is a quick video just to show the film, apologies for the poor quality but it gives you an idea:

I'm excited to see the results!

Aside from this today the day was spent making final preparations for my presentation to my peers explaining the inspirations for my project, where its headed and basically what I have been doing, I found this fairly difficult really especially as I am dealing with a subject that is quite abstract really, it was good for me to present my ideas formally and get to the heart of what this project is about and what I am trying to achieve. I await the assessment feed back from Graham (Tutor for Contextual Studies) his feedback should be fairly useful.

Below are the slides that were presented to the class, I tried to keep the slides simple and just as visual aids for what was being discussed. It was important for me to involve the theme of what i was discussing in the visual presentation of the slides so by using green as the background colour this supposedly ought to create a more serious tone to the presentation (or so my reading suggested!). It was a shame that the videos i downloaded to show people were not supported on the computer in college, you might assume that a standard MP4 file might not be an issue but you would stand corrected. I think that would have helped the people in my class visualize what I was discussing and it would have definitely increased their understanding of what I myself was trying to achieve. I didn't feel too bad about it though because obviously people share work constantly throughout the course so they will see eventually what I meant.
