Glow Sticks
First attempt at using light to capture motion that depicts sound, this was in collaboration with William Skinner another student studying at the college. We used both long exposure shots and some video work to explore this further.
This is Will.
Here are some examples of the photoraphs that resulted. Some of the earlier shots you could tell that they were images of glowsticks which isnt really what I was after but once we started to experiment with shapes and forms they were much more successfull.
These are the later ones in the series, these are where i tried to create the shape of the sound I was hearing rather than just waving them randomly around in time with the rhythm.
In relation to the project as a whole i'm not sure how this work could be incorporated into a film, I think if I did almost like stop animation with long exposures this would be interesting doing that with something like a lava lamp could also produce some interesting results. Rather than just simply filming because I dont think you would get the lovely light traces that make these images so nice to read.
